Send one campaign to several lists or segments
The Audience field in the campaign builder's Details step takes more than one selection. The dropdown groups them under Lists and Segments, and you can mix the two freely.
Nobody gets two copies
The obvious worry with overlapping audiences is that someone in both lists gets the email twice. They do not — recipients are de-duplicated at send time, so each person receives exactly one copy however many of your selections they appear in.
This is also why the total is not the sum. Two lists of 500 with 100 people in common send 900 emails, not 1,000.
The count underneath is the one that matters
With audiences selected, the builder shows a line reading "N mailable from M".
M is how many contacts your selections hold. N is how many can actually be emailed once unsubscribed, bounced, invalid and non-consented contacts are removed. N is what will be sent.
If that line turns amber, the list has lost more than half of itself — worth understanding before you send rather than after. See Why fewer people received the campaign.
When to combine, and when not to
Combining works well for related groups — "Newsletter" plus "Recent buyers" for an announcement that suits both.
It works badly as a substitute for a segment. If you find yourself selecting six lists to approximate "engaged customers", build a segment instead: it maintains itself, and you will not forget to add the seventh list next month. See Segments versus lists.
Next: in the Details step, select your audiences and read the mailable line before continuing.
