Connect your own domain

Open this in your dashboard

In the editor, click Domain at the top. The Go live window opens at Your domain. Type the address, e.g. www.yourbusiness.com, and click Add domain.

Set up Hosting first (step 1 in the same window) — the domain points at your site on Vercel. See Publish your site.

Add the DNS records

After you add the domain, a small table appears with Type, Name and Value columns. These are the records to add where you manage the domain's DNS — usually the company you bought the domain from.

In plain words: DNS is the address book that tells browsers where your domain lives. You are adding one or two entries that say "this domain is now at this site".

  1. Sign in where you bought the domain and find its DNS settings.
  2. For each row, add a record with the same type, name and value. Click a value in the table to copy it.
  3. Save, then come back.

If we recognise where your DNS is, the window says so and offers a direct link, e.g. "Your DNS is at … Open … DNS".

Waiting for it to work

While the window is open, it checks every 15 seconds. You can also click the refresh icon (Check now) next to the domain. Changes usually show up within minutes, sometimes up to a day.

LabelMeaning
Waiting for DNSThe records are not visible yet. Check they were saved exactly as shown, then wait.
Needs verificationDNS is found; ownership is being confirmed.
LiveThe domain shows your site.
ProblemSomething is wrong; the reason is shown under the domain.

When DNS is right but not confirmed yet, the window reads "DNS points to the right place; confirming it now."

www and the bare domain

Add the address you want people to use. The other form (with or without www) is added for you and forwards to it — it appears as a second domain with an arrow pointing at the first. Add the records for both.

Removing a domain

Click the bin icon next to it and confirm. The site keeps working on its Vercel address.

Change only the records shown. Deleting other DNS records — especially email ones — can stop your business email working.

Next: click Domain, add the address, and copy the records into your DNS settings.
