Team chat notifications

Open this in your dashboard

By default, you're notified about every direct message and whenever someone @mentions you in a channel. Other channel messages show as unread counts but don't notify you. You can change this per conversation, and choose how alerts reach you.

Per conversation

Open the conversation and click Notification settings (the bell in the header). Under Notify me in … about, choose:

  • In a channel: Every new message, Only @mentions (the default) or Nothing.
  • In a direct message: Every message (the default) or Nothing.

Nothing mutes the conversation. Unread counts still show. This setting is saved to your account, so it also controls push notifications and emails, not just this browser.

How alerts reach you

The rest of the panel holds settings for how alerts reach you:

  • Desktop notifications — pop-ups when Brainito is in the background. Your browser asks for permission the first time. This applies to this browser only. When it's on, a line says whether you'll also be alerted with every tab closed (Also when every Brainito tab is closed) or only while a Brainito tab is open. Fix tries to turn on the closed-tab alerts.
  • Sound — plays with every notification. Pick Knock, Ding or Pop, and set the volume.
  • Send a test notification shows you what an alert looks and sounds like. With desktop notifications on, Test with Brainito closed sends a real one to check alerts arrive with every tab closed.
  • Email me about missed messages — when it's available, emails you about a direct message or mention that stays unread. It applies on every device. The unsubscribe link in those emails turns this same setting off.

From anywhere in the dashboard

The Notifications bell in the top bar lists direct messages and mentions under Messages, next to workspace activity. Its settings button opens the same panel, without the per-conversation choice. These sound and pop-up settings also apply to Action Board alerts.

Pop-ups not appearing?

The panel says "Blocked for this site in your browser" when the browser has refused permission. Allow notifications for Brainito in the browser's site settings, then click Check again. If the test toast appears but no pop-up does, your computer may be hiding them. Allow notifications for your browser in Windows Settings → System → Notifications (or macOS System Settings → Notifications), and turn off Do Not Disturb or Focus.

If you've unsubscribed from all Brainito emails, the missed-message email can't be turned on.
