Send or schedule an SMS campaign

Open this in your dashboard

Open SMS → Campaigns, click New Campaign, choose SMS and click Compose. If SMS is not set up yet, the card reads Set up and compose instead.

You need a number first. See Set up SMS and buy a number.

Write it

On New SMS campaign, fill in:

  • Campaign name — only you see this.
  • Send to — pick a list. Or use …or target a segment (updates automatically) to send to a segment.
  • Message body — use {{first_name}} and {{company}} as merge tags. Include an opt-out line such as "Reply STOP to opt out".
  • Schedule send (optional) — a date and time. Leave it empty to send as soon as you confirm.

The count under the message is a rough guide. The exact segment count and cost are worked out on the next screen.

Check the cost before it goes

Click Save and review cost. Nothing sends yet: the campaign is saved as a draft and its page opens with Before you send, which shows:

  • Recipients — and how many were skipped for no consent or no phone number.
  • Billable segments and Estimated cost, with a breakdown by destination.
  • Balance after — your SMS credit once this is sent.

Then click Send now — or Schedule for followed by your time, if you picked one. That button is what sends; every campaign goes through this check first.

When it won't send

  • This campaign cannot send yet — a carrier rule blocks it, with the country and reason listed. Usually a US or Canadian number that isn't registered yet. See Register your business to text US numbers.
  • Nobody in this audience has both a phone number and SMS consent — there is no one to send to. See Where SMS and WhatsApp are, and who can receive them.
  • Not enough credit for the whole campaign. — it starts and pauses when the balance runs out, then continues once you top up. The button reads Send anyway.

After sending

The campaign page shows Total, Delivered, Failed, Delivery Rate and Opt-outs, plus the Message Content and a Timeline.

Sending spends your SMS credit and cannot be called back once messages go out. Check the message and audience on the draft first.

Next: write your message, click Save and review cost, and read Before you send before you click Send now or Schedule for.
