How to Check Your Email Spam Score

Open the email you plan to send in your email tool and copy three things. Paste the subject line into the first box. Paste the full body into the second, including links and the signature. Pasting the HTML version works too, because the checker reads link targets and image tags as well as the visible words. Add your from name and address in the third box if you want the sender checked, for example Nidhi at hello@example.com. Run the check and the result appears in a second or two. What the Spam Score Checker Looks For

The checker runs fixed rules, so the same email always gets the same score. In the subject it flags a missing subject, words in all capitals making up 30 percent or more of the line, repeated symbols such as !! or $$, and subjects over 70 characters. Across the whole email it looks for about 50 trigger phrases, including act now, click here, guaranteed, limited time, risk-free and winner. In the body it flags heavy use of capitals, more than five exclamation marks and more than three prices or money amounts. For links it flags more than ten links, URL shorteners, link text showing one web address that points to another, image-heavy emails with under 60 words of text, and very short emails that carry links. It also checks for an unsubscribe or manage preferences link, and whether the sender is a free mailbox or a no-reply address.

What Is a Good Spam Score?

Each rule adds a set number of points, from half a point to one and a half, and the total is capped at 10. A score under 2 is low risk, 2 up to 5 is moderate, and 5 or more is high. A good email spam score is anything in the low band, ideally zero. The heaviest rules are capitals in the subject, URL shorteners and link text that points somewhere else, at one and a half points each, because filters treat them as strong signals of bulk or phishing mail. Trigger phrases add half a point each, up to three points in total, so one stray phrase matters far less than ten. The point value appears next to every finding, so you can see which fix lowers your score the most and start there. If no rules fire, the report says so plainly.

Spam score means two different things online. An email spam score, which this tool gives you, rates the content of a message you are about to send.
