Delete contacts
Select contacts on the Contacts page and use Delete selected.
Suppressing is usually what you want instead
If the goal is to stop emailing someone, suppress them — do not delete them.
Deleting loses the record that they asked not to be contacted. Your next import from an older file will happily add them back, and you will email someone who already told you not to. Suppression survives re-import precisely because deletion does not.
Delete when the record genuinely should not exist — a GDPR erasure request, or test data. Suppress for everything else. See The suppression list.
Deleting from a list versus deleting the contact
Two different things:
- Removing from a list takes them out of that audience. They remain a contact and stay in other lists.
- Deleting the contact removes them from the workspace entirely.
If you only wanted them out of one campaign's audience, the first is what you need.
Bulk deletion deserves a pause
Selecting a filtered view and pressing Delete selected is fast, and there is no undo. Two things worth checking first:
- Are you in the right workspace? The same address can exist in more than one, and they are separate contacts.
- Is the filter showing what you think? Check the count against what you expect before confirming.
Deleting does not clear statistics
Past campaigns keep their sent, open and click counts. That is deliberate: history should not change retroactively because a contact was removed later.
Next: open Suppressions and consider Manually suppress an email instead — it is the right tool for "stop emailing this person".
